    The paper firstly reviews the development and research progress of the basic issues,such as definition and principles of green chemistry and chemical technology as well as quantitative description of greenness and “non-green problems” in the research of green chemistry and chemical technology,and secondly explores and studies the questions, such as how to complement the present basic principles,i.e.,the twelve principles,whether green chemistry should be separated into an independent discipline or not,and how to describe and evaluate effectively the greenness of green products (green chemistry) and green processes (green chemical technology). The twelve principles are considered still the guiding principles to study green chemistry,but two new principles could be added,that is,design and manufacture of materials which could be reclaimed and used time after time,such as catalysts,chiral reagents etc.,as well as improvement of former processes and techniques by using process intensification and integration etc. Green chemistry and chemical technology should be an independent discipline to be studied more deeply. The greenness of products and processes could be quantitative described,but different parameters and methods must be chosen depending on different objectives. In the same time, more attention should be paid to studying and solving the “non-green problems”,such as research on ionic liquids etc.

    The progress of Ni-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reaction is reviewed. For all kinds of haloarenes,arene sulfonates and organoborates,with the enhancement of the activity catalyst,ligand and reducing agent,the reaction conditions become milder. The catalytic capacities of Pd catalyst and Ni catalyst are compared,and Ni catalyst is found to become more stable,effective and cheap. Furthermore,Ni catalyst can catalyze more substrates,hence,it is an ideal substitute of Pd catalyst. Lastly,the development of Ni catalyst of heterocyclic carbenes,heterogeneous catalyst and their advantages are summarized.

    The development of the elimination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by catalytic combustion,especially aromatic hydrocarbons,ethanols,aldehydes and halogenated hydrocarbon compounds,is reviewed. The characteristics of the catalysts for the catalytic combustion of various VOCs is reviewed. The difference in the catalytic performance of the catalysts under various reaction conditions is analyzed. The development trend of the elimination of volatile organic compounds by catalytic combustion is presented.

    The study and development of formed activated carbon for natural gas adsorption in China and overseas are reviewed. The results show that the pore structure of formed adsorbents is a main factor affecting the storage of methane. The methods for preparation of powdery adsorbent,including physical activation and chemical activation are introduced. Moreover,the advantages and disadvantages of these two methods are compared. The factors that affect the methane adsorption behavior of formed adsorbents,including molding pressure,ratio of binder,heat treatment temperature and heat treatment time,are discussed in detail. The selection of binder and forming conditions are the critical factors of molding.

    The recent progress in the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) via transesterification is reviewed in terms of catalysts and reaction conditions. The technologies of synthesizing dimethyl carbonate by the dimethyl sulfate method,cyclic carbonate method and one-pot method from methanol,epoxides,and CO2 are introduced. The catalysts used are evaluated and the advantages and the shortcomings of the technologies are compared. Synthesis of dimethyl carbonate by transesterification has the prospect of commercialization.

The recent research progress of these sweetening materials was reviewed in terms of preparation methods,structure characteristics,sweetening effects and mechanisms. Development potential of organic cupriferrous polymer in sweetening activity and regeneration was presented.

    Based on the mechanism of adsorption,this paper reviews physical adsorptive desulfurization,reactive adsorptive desulfurization and selective adsorptive desulfurization. Physical adsorptive desulfurization is not expected to be very selective for sulfur compounds in transportation fuels and deep removal of sulfur cannot be realized. Reactive adsorptive desulfurization can achieve high sulfur-adsorption capacity when adsorption temperature is high,but the adsorbent regeneration temperature is very high. Selective adsorptive desulfurization is considered to be more promising,because of low investment,low operation cost and high desulfurization efficiency. It is the most promising process to reach the “zero sulfur” objective in the near future,but sulfur capacity of adsorbents and their selectivity for sulfur compounds could not yet satisfy the requirement in industrial application.

    On the basis of elemental composition and surface functionality of carbon black,three procedures of hydrophilic modification on carbon black surface,such as oxidation,grafting and encapsulation modification are reviewed. Oxidation can be carried out in the gas or liquid phase,by anodic oxidation and by plasma oxidation. Grafting modification includes capturing,initiating and reactive grafting. Moreover,carbon black can be encapsulated by micro-emulsion polymerization and phase separating sedimentation. The wettability of carbon black to water is improved and the dispersing stability is enhanced.

    Preparation of modified aluminum thrihydroxide at a high concentration by thermal hydrolysis was studied by examining the rheology of ATH suspension. The ATH suspension was a very sticky time-dependent non-Newtonian fluid and its viscosity increased rapidly with the content of ATH. Rheology study was used to select dispersants for the ATH suspension in acid. A polyelectrolyte surfactant was found to decrease the viscosity of the ATH suspension apparently. The maximum content of ATH with added polyelectrolyte surfactant increased to 293 g/L from 78 g/L. Nano modified ATH could thus be prepared by thermal hydrolysis precipitation. The resulting modified ATH had ultra thin rhombic morphology with the beginning of thermal decomposition higher than 350 ℃ and weight loss of 50% approximately.

    In this paper,the mass transfer efficiency of a new type structured packing of rhombus mesh frame used in extraction process was studied. In F50mm packed extraction columns,two extraction systems with different interfacial tensions,kerosene- benzoic acid-water and 30%TBP(kerosene)-acetic acid-water were chosen to examine the Hoxp (height of mass transfer unit based on plug flow and continuous flow) of this structured packing and F10mm Pall ring packing under various operation conditions. Eliminating the affecting factors,the Hoxp of this new type structured packing was less than that of Pall ring at a minimum rate of 25%,though the mass loading density of the rhombus mesh frame packing was only 38% of the Pall ring. Factors affecting mass transfer were discussed. Based on the characteristics of this packing,optimization and design principles were also suggested.

    Mesoporous ZrO2/Ti-MCM-41 materials were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions,and characterized with XRD,FT-IR,UV-Vis and nitrogen adsorption-desorption. The results showed that the obtained materials were mesoporous molecular sieves with long-range order. The crystallinity of ZrO2/Ti-MCM-41 became poor with the increase of ZrO2. ZrO2/Ti-MCM-41 was used as catalyst in the pyrolysis of PP. The influences of reaction conditions,such as n(Si)∶n(Ti),content of ZrO2,temperature,dosage of catalyst and reaction time on the pyrolysis results were examined. Under the optimum conditions of n(Si)∶n(Ti)=40,mass percentage of ZrO2 18%,temperature 400℃,m(catalyst)∶m(PP)=0.02 and reaction time 0.5 h,the conversion was 91.2% and the yield of liquid products was 83.6%. Compared with the results obtained by thermal pyrolysis and catalytic pyrolysis on HZSM-5,ZrO2/Ti-MCM-41 was of better catalytic activity and higher yield of liquid products,and was especially suitable for the pyrolysis of sterically hindered polymers,such as PP.

    Red phosphorus microencapsulation flame retardant was prepared by Supercritical Fluid-Rapid Expansion of Supercritical Solutions (SCF-RESS),using a self-made special nozzle. The influences of temperature of the nozzle,temperature in the high-pressure kettle,molar flux of the red phosphorus particles and pressure in the kettle on coating effect were discussed. The results showed that red phosphorus microencapsulation particles were prepared when both temperature in the kettle and temperature of the nozzle were 120 ℃,molar flux of red phosphorus particles was 1.5 g/min,and pressure in kettle was more than 16 MPa.

    Perovskite LaCoO3 was studied in the presence of cracked radicals of acetone. Radicals from acetone cracking eliminated O2 what was the poison to the catalyst of flue gas desulfurization. XRD and XPS results revealed that ultraviolet ray oxidized SO2 to SO3 and sulfate appeared on the surface of the catalyst. The yield of elemental sulfur fell accordingly. The catalyst in the presence of cracked radicals of acetone kept stable structure and high activity of catalytic reduction of SO2 by CO to elemental sulfur.

    With NaAlO2 solution and CO2 gas as raw materials,in a specially made reactor,nano- Al(OH)3 powder was prepared through reaction of CO2 gas with NaAlO2 solution atomized by ultrasound as well as surface modification of Al(OH)3 in butanol. The effects of such factors as NaAlO2 concentration,flow-rate ratio of carrier gas to CO2,and surface modification on the size of Al(OH)3 were investigated. The prepared particles were characterized with TEM,XRD and IR spectroscopy.The results showed that Al(OH)3 particles as-prepared were monoclinic and hydrophobic with a well-proportioned mean size of 50 nm.

    A new complex type of rapeseed oil fatliquoring agent with excellent performance was synthesized by the reactions of ester exchange,ethoxylation and hydroxylation. Infrared spectroscopy (IR) was used to characterize the structure of the products. A preferred synthesis process was given as follows:The ester exchanged oil was first modified by hydrogen peroxide at 50 ℃ for 6 h,when acetic acid was chosen as active oxygen carrier,strong-acid ion exchange resin was chosen as catalyst,and their dosage was 40% and 5% of the ester exchanged oil in weight respectively. Then the epoxidized oil was modified by polyethylene glycol (PEG) at 55 ℃ for 4 h,when the ratio of epoxidized oil and PEG in weight was 1.67∶1,the dosage of KOH was 1% of the epoxidized oil in weight. The product was used as fatliquoring agent of leather. The leather fatliquored with this product showed good fullness,softness,water-resistance,elasticity and silky feeling.

    The synthesis of green oxane from isobutyl aldehyde and 2,2,4-trimethy-1,3- pentanediol (TMPD) catalysed by HY zeolite was studied. The effects of ratio of reactants,temperature,solvent,dosage and the recycling of catalyst were investigated. The results showed that not only the conversion of TMPD and the selectivity to green oxane were almost the same,but also the catalyst was easily separated and recycled as compared with conventional catalysts.

    Organized mesoporous alumina was synthesized by the precipitation method with nitrate alumina as source of alumina,nonionic surfactant PEG1540 as template and monoamonium phosphate as assistant solvent. The influence of various conditions (template,pH of reaction terminal,technology of treatment and assistant solvent) on the structure of organized mesoporous alumina was discussed. The structure of synthesized sample was investigated with BET,TEM,and XRD. The results showed that the organized mesoporous alumina with high surface area and narrow pore size distribution could be synthesized. Worm-like pores were formed and appeared organized to some extent.

    The highly concentrated aniline wastewater was treated by membrane extraction. The effects of the aniline initial concentration,hydrodynamic conditions,temperature, pH value and ionic strength on removal efficiency and mass transfer coefficient were investigated. The experimental results showed that the overall mass transfer resistance was dominated by membrane resistance. The relationship between temperature and the permeability of aniline agreed with the Arrhenius equation. The ionic strength influenced the partition coefficients in aqueous-membrane-aqueous systems. The aniline removal efficiency was up to 97% under the conditions of flow rate 3.05 L/d,temperature 50℃,pH 1,membrane length 18 m and initial aniline concentration 33 081 mg/L. The net benefit was 103.84¥ per ton.

    The mechanism of absorption of SO2 by ZnO slurry was investigated,and a novel indirect desulfurization process using ZnO slurry was proposed in order to avoid plugging. Based on experiments,the influence of slurry concentration,liquid-gas ratio,SO2 inlet concentration and superficial velocity on desulfurization efficiency was analyzed.

    N,N–dilauryl chitosan/PLLA (NCS/PLLA) blend membranes with three different compositions were prepared by solution approach using CHCl3 as cosolvent. The hydrogen-bonding interactions between NCS and PLLA were studied with FTIR,TA and WAXD methods. FTIR experiments indicated that the wave numbers of hydroxide stretching band of NCS and the carbonyl stretching band of PLLA in the blend membranes had a red-shift change compared with both pure materials. TA results confirmed that the thermal stability of the blend membranes was higher than that of NCS alone,the Tm and crystallinity of PLLA in blend membranes decreased compared with pure PLLA. WAXD patterns showed that the crystal peaks of PLLA at 2θ=16.7°,19.1° shifted to a lower angle,and the diffraction peak beca me weaker and broader obviously in the blend membranes with increasing NCS content,even disappeared when NCS content reached 50%. SEM images of blend membranes showed that good miscibility existed in this blend systems. The most interesting and important finding of the present study was that the miscibility of the NCS/PLLA blend systems mainly came from hydrogen-bonding interactions between the hydroxyl groups of NCS and the carbonyl groups of PLLA.

    This paper introduces the technical progress of membrane separation for volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The basic principles of membrane separation technology for recovering butene and iso-pentane from VOC/ N2 are described, and the influence of operating condition on membrane separation is indicated. Recovery of hydrocarbon from VOC/ N2 could reach about 80% after putting the membrane separation unit in service. The permeate gas is then compressed and condensed for further recovery. Field application indicates that obvious economic benefit is achieved by low investment, clean production and high effectiveness of membrane separation.

    Polyacrylate-sodium super absorbent polymer (PAA-Na SAP) with polyethyleneglycol diacrylate cross-linker was synthesized,and the influence of polymer dosage on the qualities,drag reduction and lubrication properties of crude oil were studied. The results showed that adding PAA-Na SAP 40~160 μg/g not only achieved drag reduction effectiveness over 20% and increased transportation capacity of pipeline,but also had no adverse effect on crude oil quality. The polymer and cross-linker were identified with IR.

    Research on energy-saving process of methanol distillation

    Two energy-saving processes of methanol distillation were proposed. In the improved three-column process with double-effect distillation, the vapor from higher-pressure column was not only the heat source of the lower-pressure column, but also the heat source of pretreatment column. A new higher-pressure column was added in the four-column process with double-effect distillation, and its vapor was used to heat up the reboiler of pretreatment column. The distillate of the new higher-pressure column is methanol product and the bottom stream is waste water. A steady-state simulation was carried out. The result showed that the difference of temperature at two sides of heat exchangers was appropriate so the heat exchangers could work normally. A comparison between two energy-saving processes and the traditional three-column processes indicated that the improved three-column process reduced the heat consumption by 16.67% of traditional three-column process and the four-column process reduced the heat consumption by 16.17% of traditional three-column process.

Microbial synthesis or their enzymatic biocatalysis is attractive technological tools for the production of unnatural and rare monosaccharides. In the present study,the development of producing L-pentoses using microorganisms and their enzymes was reviewed,and the market perspectives of these compounds were presented.
