For the deep desulfurization of gasoline,it is crucial to avoid the decreases of octane number (RON) and final gasoline yield; for the deep reduction of sulfur content in diesel oil,the major difficulties are how to remove sulfur from inactive compounds like 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene (4,6-DMDBT) and at the same time to conquer the inhibiting effects of polyaromatics and nitrogen compounds in the feed as well as H2S produced during the desulfurization. In this paper, the progresses of the development of deep hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalysts for commercial application as well as the fundamental researches on HDS catalysis and reaction mechanism were reviewed. It was then emphasized that having an insight into the catalyst structures and HDS reaction mechanism on atomic or molecular levels played an important role in the design of highly active and selective catalysts of the next generation.

Isolated mixing regions (IMRs) exist widely in the stirred tank when operating with high- viscosity fluid under laminar flow conditions, which becomes a big barrier to efficient mixing. In order to increase the mixing efficiency, chaotic mixing was developed and applied successfully. The principle of chaotic mixing is dynamical perturbation, which can induce chaos within the flow field by destroying the periodicity of the moving fluid particles. Up to now, there are many methods about chaotic mixing in the stirred tanks, such as time-varying rotation, which includes co-reverse periodic rotation and time-periodically fluctuating rotation, eccentric rotation, reciprocating stirring, and so on. All the simulation and experimental research work have indicated that chaotic mixing can significantly improve the performance of the stirred tank and it has a great advantage over the conventional steady stirring methods.

The continuous industrial solid-state polymerization of nylon 6 spherical pellets with different initial molecular weights and moisture contents was studied in review of different reaction conditions, such as polymerization time, polymerization temperature and moisture content. Most of the results were found identical to those concluded from models, and temperature and initial molecular weight of nylon 6 chips played a very important role in this process. The results also proved that reaction time and moisture content of chips had an important effect on the solid-state polymerization. Moreover, initial oxidation temperature of nylon 6 chips in practice was found far lower than that concluded from the model research. Therefore, the valuable experimental results can help researchers to design and improve the models in their further study.

The bromobutyl rubber/phenolic sulfuration resin composite latex with 9.3% solid content was prepared by the method of dissolution and emulsification, and the composite latex was concentrated by the creaming method, with sodium alginate as creaming reagent. The effect of dosage of creaming reagent on creaming time, latex solid content and average particle size was studied, and it was found that the composite latex particle size was too large, and the concentration period was too long, about 15 days. The dry rubber transect made from composite latex was observed with SEM. It was discovered that large particles of the creaming composite latex syncretized very well, and formed dry rubber membrane. The 0.6mm rubber membrane was made by coating, drying and vulcanizing, and the mechanical properties and the permeation rate for H2 were determined. The results indicated that the vulcanized membrane was good in mechanical properties and the permeation rate for H2 was lower than NR and CR, with relative permeability 9.64% of NR, and 71.3% of CR.
