There is plentiful biomass, a renewable resource,in the world. Not only the problem of energy shortage can be solved, but also the amount of emission of carbon dioxide can be decreased by the effective utilization of biomass energy. Thermochemical conversion of biomass includes gasification, pyrolysis and liquefaction. Liquefaction has got more and more attention in recent years because of its advantages over other methods. In this paper, the progress in liquefaction of biomass is reviewed, including the effects of biomass type, solvent, catalyst, temperature, pressure, and reaction time on the yield and distribution of products. It is pointed out that the mainstream of liquefaction is to reduce the cost of liquefaction and decrease the oxygen content of bio–crude.

Compared with the traditional method, an improved process was developed to synthesize 8–hydroxyquioline aluminum (AlQ3) by chemical deposition in nitrogen atmosphere. The acidity of solution and reaction time influenced the yield of AlQ3 strongly. The purity and characteristics of the organic material were investigated with a combination of high performance liquid chromatogram (HPLC), Fourier transformation infrared absorption (FT—IR) spectrum and fluorescence spectrum (FL). At pH value 6.5, and reaction time 120 min, the yield and the purity of AlQ3 were 92.7% and 92.5%, respectively. The aging process of as–synthesized AlQ3 was researched with FT–IR and the aging mechanism was discussed.

The absorption of H2S in acid solution of Fe2(SO4)3 was carried out in order to study the technology of removing H2S by bacterial cultures of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans. Single factor test was designed to test the profile of desulfurization efficiency under different conditions of liquid–to–gas ratio (L/V), initial concentration of Fe3+([Fe3+]) and pH. Simulation analysis showed that the gas–liquid mass transfer rates in this experiment was much smaller than chemical reaction rate and was the controlling step of the H2S absorption process. The experiment results proved that liquid–to–gas ratio was the dominant factor of gas–liquid mass transfer rates, but initial [Fe3+] concentration and pH showed little effect. The optimal operation conditions were as follows L/V=0.6min-1;[Fe3+]=10 g·L-1; pH=2.0. Under such conditions, the efficiency of removing H2S by bacterial cultures was around 90%.

The conditions of photocatalytic degradation such as pH,the amounts of photocatalyst, the initial concentration of bromamine acid, etc, were studied in the decolorization of bromamine acid. The results showed that when solution pH was 4.0, the amount of TiO2/SiO2/Fe3O4 was 2.0g/L, the initial concentration of bromamine acid was 30mg/L, illumination time was 30min, the decolorization ratio and the removal rate of COD was 96.2% and 85.1% respectively. Within the range of the initial concentration of bromamine acid, the photochemical decoloration reaction was expressed as first order kinetics, and the effect of initial concentration of bromamine acid on rate constant was: lnk =–0.171 lnc0–2.360. After four times of use, the TiO2/SiO2/Fe3O4 still had good photocatalytic activity and high recovery efficiency.

Hydrosilylation reaction was carried out by using a fluid–phase flow reactor with the use of the catalyst prepared from easily available materials, cation resin, ethanolamine, and hexachloroplatinic acid. The catalyst displayed higher conversion activity, improved selectivity of β–addition products and enhanced thermal stability. The effects of temperature, the quantity of catalyst used, and reactant feed rate on hydrosilylation was discussed. At 70℃, when reactant feed rate was 6.7 mL/h and the quantity of catalyst was 2 g, the conversion of methyl dichlorosilane could reach 98.42% and the selectivity of βaddition products could be 99.23%. The reaction could be carried out for 21h without loss in catalytic activity.

The structural characteristics of bubbling valve tray were analyzed. In an experimental rectangular column of 1 000×350 mm, the behavior of bubbling valve tray was tested with airwater system. In the experiment, hydraulic properties, such as tray pressure drop, entrainment rate, and weeping rate were measured, and mass transfer efficiency was determined through the method of oxygen–absorptions. When compared with the corresponding properties of conventional F1 valve tray, the tray efficiency of bubbling valve tray was improved by 10%20% , pressure drop was lowered by over 200Pa, and entrainment rate was almost the same. Bubbling valve tray, with its bubbling holes, had a larger weeping rate than F1 type tray at the low air flow rate in the experiment. However, in industrial application, the weeping rate of bubbling valve tray is almost equivalent to that of F1 type tray. The bubbling valve is proven to be a better valve in terms of overall performance.

The effects of CaC2/ emusifiable solution ratio, particle size and reaction time on acid removal and dehydration were studied. The loss rate of major pesticide indicator of emusifiable solution resulting from the treatment was determined, and the impact of the treatment on the stability, toxicology and toxicity of emusifiable solution was evaluated. The results showed that the best treatment conditions were as follows: CaC2/emusifiable solution ratio 1∶100, CaC2 particle size 0.177~0.149 mm,and reaction time 10min. The loss rate of major pesticide indicator resulting from the treatment was 0.3%~1.8%. After treatment with CaC2,the stability of sample remained unchanged, with low toxicity(toxicology unchanged),pesticide effectiveness increased a little.

This paper studies batch absorption with a two–section column for the treatment of tail gas containing hydrogen chloride (HCl). The operation not only makes the emission of hydrogen chloride meet the environment standard, but also can produce hydrochloric acid as a by–product. In the lower section of the column, dilute hydrochloric acid is recycled at a large flow rate as the absorbent. Fresh water at a smaller flow rate is used in the upper section. The temperature of the absorbent in the lower section should be below 40℃. In a laboratory test column, when the concentration of dilute hydrochloric acid in the lower section is 1%~15%, the rate of absorption for hydrogen chloride was over 99.5 %. In an industrial test column, the average rate of absorption for hydrogen chloride reached 97.6% and the concentration of by–product hydrochloric acid was 10%~15%.
